Today, I mark my one-month anniversary as Head of Customs - EMEA at Visteon, global automotive supplier with operations in over 30 countries. It has been the most exciting, challenging and rewarding experience of my professional career.
I always said that global trade professionals are lucky because, if they are well-prepared, they can work anywhere in the world, as 90% of trade compliance topics are global. Today, I am living proof of that.
I would like to encourage other global trade professionals to challenge themselves and to consider working abroad, using their skills and experience to make a difference in any company worldwide. It is a great way to learn and to grow your career.
Here are some tips for global trade professionals who are considering working abroad:
» Develop your global trade compliance skills. This includes learning about different regulations and customs procedures in different countries.
» Network with other trade compliance professionals in your target country. This is a great way to learn about the local market and to make connections.
» Be prepared to adapt to a new culture.
I believe that global trade is a field with a bright future. As the world becomes more interconnected, the demand for trade compliance professionals will continue to grow.
