Interesting digital development tilting thousands of life-or-death situations each year: thanks to the application of drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras, the lives of more than 3'000 deer fawns could be saved during this fawning season in Switzerland alone. The drones are used in spring and early summer, right before farmers mow their hay. Experts estimate that mostly where drones aren't used, still thousands of fawns are killed by mowing machines each spring. I think we'd all agree that this is a good start here. With fewer fawns killed in our fields, and more surviving to adulthood each year, the often emotionally led debate about wild-living carnivores (mainly lynx and wolf) will hopefully develop positively in times to come.
