The Art of Repetition

The Art of Repetition

It’s amazing how much we learn through repetition. Repetition is simply the art of repeating or rehearsing the same thing over and over again. Of course, this is one thing most of us try to avoid. Who wants to continue repeating the same thing over again? Yet, this is the practical step needed if we desire to improve or develop in any particular area of our lives.

Have you ever heard the expression, “practice makes perfect?” Well, it certainly has some truth to it. Practicing any given thing will certainly make you better than when you first initially started.

Take physical fitness for example. Exercise is composed of a sequence of steps and movements. It’s what I refer to as a step and repeat. The trainer takes a combination of steps and repeats it throughout the entire session. Although most moves may intensify the further along you go, the sequence remains the same.

Our muscles are developed the more we repeat movements. As we strengthen the muscles, we are able to build greater endurance levels. Low-intensity resistant training strengthens muscle endurance, while high-intensity resistance training increases muscular strength.

This is not only true with fitness, we can apply this in every area of our lives. There is a synchronization that flows from the mind to the human body. The more we do it, a continual rhythm and pattern are spawned. The movement is so repetitious that after a while it becomes effortless. As we achieve one level, we will find it easier to increase and stretch to the next level. Before long, we begin to master our craft. That’s the beauty of repetition!
