Ames making a comeback by opening 35 new locations nationwide

Updated story here: Is Ames making a comeback? Announcement about new stores hard to verify

The once-prominent department store chain Ames appears to be making a comeback after the company announced that it will be opening more than two dozen locations nationwide in the coming years.

The new stores will start appearing in June 2026, Ames said in an online statement.

There are currently 35 locations that are expected to open across the United States by late 2027, and even more stores to come in 2028.

This also marks the return of Ames Cafe, which will be located inside each of the 35 locations, according to the company.

The new Ames website will also allow online ordering and home delivery. Plans for a pharmacy at participating locations are also in the works, Ames said.

The chain closed all its 327 stores in 2002, resulting in 20,000 workers being unemployed in 2002, according to Boston25.
