There goes a train through paradise

Vintage train Pinzgau local railway

At the time, it was a taste of the future, yet today it is a look back into the past – a trip with a real steam engine. It’s a sight to behold every time again when the historic railway steams through Upper Pinzgau on rails.
You don’t get much closer to time travel than this.
The rattling of the rails, the unmistakable sound of the nostalgic steam whistle and the unparalleled beauty of the landscape make a trip on this train an unforgettable experience.

A trip on the steam train of the Pinzgau local railway makes not just children’s eyes shine. And it’s hard not to rejoice when the steam engine sounds its horn, the wheels slowly start moving and the white steam whooshes across the rails.
That is pure nostalgic feeling along Salzach River from Zell am See all the way to Krimml. Our tip: Just leave your smart phone and camera in your bag, there is no Wi-Fi here anyway. Not at the Krimml waterfalls either – but getting the camera out here is definitely worth it.

Time travel makes you hungry

Full steam ahead may sound fast, but isn’t necessarily so. So food and drink are served on board – the highlight definitely being the sausages that are grilled on the steam engine’s boiler. Beverages are served in the “Pinzga Schenke” dining car.
So passengers on the Pinzgau local railway will want for nothing. Tickets can be bought directly from the conductors or in the customer centre in Mittersill. With the National Park Summer Card even at a discount Important: Don’t forget to make a reservation!
