Plagued by increasingly frightening nightmares, she isn't the only one in her family suffering: her husband Henry is slowly losing his mind, while their older daughter spends all of her time locked in her room and the younger one believes she hears strange noises coming from inside the walls. Desperate, she turns to Father Tomas Ortega -- the progressive leader of their suburban Chicago parish -- setting him on a collision course with old school Vatican soldier Father Marcus Brennan, as all their fates become entangled in a battle against an ancient force of evil. Graeme Blundell The Australian Much anticipated and ferociously well realised. Dec 16, 2016 Full Review Hank Stuever Washington Post From the first episode, Slater's version distinguished itself with a look and sensibility that honors Friedkin's eerie style. Dec 8, 2016 Full Review Rebecca Hawkes Daily Telegraph (UK) Taking place in the present day, the series is, crucially, not a retelling of the famous Regan case from the Friedkin's film but a new tale, set in the same demon-ridden universe. Rated: 4/5 Oct 20, 2016 Full Review Natalia Marcos El Pais (Spain) A series inspired by the original film did not sound like a great idea, but the end result has been quite dignified. [Full Review in Spanish] Jul 10, 2018 Full Review Anissa Hanley Black Nerd Problems Father Tomas had a dream about the whole exorcism and witnessed it as it went on as if he was in the room. It was some Inception s**t! Jun 18, 2018 Full Review Jade Budowski Decider There are some genuinely creepy moments here, and the strength of the cast may eventually lead to some really quality horror. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/10/23 Full Review Gareth v Was intrigued to see what direction this show would take in it's telling but it stayed pretty true to the source material. It does make it predictable but it also gives you what makes the franchise a success. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/06/22 Full Review y c Gripping, sucked me in straight away. Three episodes in I stopped and decided to wait till the weekend so i could binge. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review farah r Compelling characters and an intriguing story make The Exorcist a series worth watching. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member A worthy and glorious ending to the Regan & Pazuzu storyline, and that was just a plus Something of a breath of fresh air in the "supernatural" horror genre. An excellent combination of -sorely missed- brilliant writing and acting, what this series achieved is nothing to sneeze at; After 70 years of horror movies, from Devil Rides Out to VVitch and Hereditary, who would have thought it is still possible to even make an 80-min movie based solely around demonic possession, let alone a series, that is not only "actually" horrifying and scary yet is also thought-provoking. The actual "horror" isn't just in what you see (still pretty scary); it's written in the atmosphere, the feeling you get when you see a demonic invasion and a corrupt church and law enforcement, coupled with the evil in human nature and lack of presence of God where you can't tell if what you are feeling is influenced by God or Demons; that world is truly scary. Who should you run away from, towards whom? There always has been likes of Polanski or Lynch and many in between (mentioned at the end) who truly respected the integrity and importance of "the screenplay" and didn't settle for repetition of the horror flick formula to get a few scares; instead searched for new ways to provide a rich atmosphere of fear and horror. This is a combination of justified scary scenes and an atmospheric fear. The Innocents, Hellraiser, Susperia, Blair Witch, The Ritual, The Believers and a handful of others Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
