For the production of my work "The genie in a bottle - chubby is" in "" I was inspired by the trend reversal in terms of the ideal of beauty: Skinny chic is increasingly coming under fire. But the self-confidence of the chubby grows. “Slim, thin, lean!” Has been the watchword for years. In stark contrast to this is the steadily growing army of… the fat - both on this side and on the other side of the Atlantic.
Reinhold Laessle, a nutrition psychologist at the University of Trier, confirms this: “If you are moderately fat, you have a good chance of becoming socially acceptable.” Anorexic models are sometimes banned from the catwalks. “People get a sense that this is basically sick,” says the scientist.
Fortunately, that has nothing to do with “thick is chic”. “Being seriously overweight remains a considerable health risk, there is no need to argue about that,” says Reinhold Laessle.
