LEDERMÜLLER, MARTIN FROBENIUS

FIRST EDITION, folio (482 x 340mm.), hand-coloured engraved title-page with rococo border by Wirsing after Ledermüller, text in German and French, 12 hand-coloured engraved plates by Wirsing after Ledermüller, uncut, contemporary tan boards, housed in modern half calf folding case, occasional staining to lower right corner (not affecting text or engravings), some leaves or plates slightly shorter, rubbed
Ledermüller (1719-1769) produced the drawings himself for this study after the botanical artist Fossier. The plates depict microscopal views of plants, including the iris, rose, and ranunculus, alongside images of their component parts.
The author was German physician, lawyer, self-taught naturalist and keeper of the natural history collection of the Margrave of Brandenburg-Colmbach. He studied under the botanist Dr Christoph Jacob Trew.
