Caroline Wozniacki was unable to win the second tournament.

After Elina Svitolina's cancellation, Wozniacki faced the lucky loser Varvara Gracheva, who knew how to seize her chance against the former world number one. The French Gracheva won 6: 4, 6: 4 against the Danish who started with a wild card. After her comeback last week, in which Wozniacki survived the first round in Montreal, the second tournament ended in round one.

Karolina Pliskova, who lost to Jelena Ostapenko in three sets, was also eliminated. After a 6:1 and the set lead for Pliskova, Ostapenko improved and was able to turn the match around. 6:3, 6:4 was the result of the other two sets. Ostapenko now meets Jelena Rybakina.

Azarenka, Kasatkina and Kvitova are victorious

Petra Kvitova only had difficulties against Ana Blinkova in the first set, 7:6(2), 6:0 was the final result after 90 minutes. Victoria Azarenka needed a whopping 15 minutes more playing time for her 6:3, 7:5 against Barbora Krejcikova. Daria Kasatkina made it faster against Peyton Stearns. 6:2, 6:1 were on the scoreboard after 68 minutes.
