STANLEY HENRY MORTON: (1841-1904) British explorer and journalist, famous for his exploration of Central Africa and his search for missionary and explorer David Livingstone. A.L.S., Henry M. Stanley, two pages, 8vo, Duchess Street, Portland Place, 22nd August 1872, to Sir Henry. Stanley writes concerning his correspondent's hat, 'It just happened through extreme press of business that I left your hat at the Mayor's at Brighton, and was in great trepidation about it. The next time I went down at close of B.A. meeting I took particular care of it, nourished it fondly, had it constantly near me lest I might forget it again. I brought the hat with me I am happy to say & forward it by my boy who will be held responsible for it, to the address you mentioned. Hoping that you will get it all safe'. Some light traces of former mounting to two edges, not affecting the text or signature, otherwise VG Stanley's now famous greeting on finding Livingstone, 'Dr. Livingstone, I presume?', was first quoted in a summary of Stanley's letters published by The New York Times on 2nd July 1872, in the month before the present letter was written.

ALBERT I & ELISABETH OF BELGIUM: Albert I (1875-1934) King of the Belgians 1909-34. King Albert died in a mountaineering accident, & Elisabeth of Bavaria (1876-1965) Queen consort of the Belgians as spouse of King Albert. Two excellent vintage signed oval 6 x 8 photographs by the King and Queen of Belgium, the Boute Royal photographer from Brussels images showing the King in a half length formal pose, wearing his military inform, and depicting the Queen in a three quarter length pose, wearing an elegant dress and hat. Signed `Albert´, to the matted borderand ``Elisabetta´ to a clear area of the image, both in bold dark ink, and each of them dated 1913 in the King and Queen hands. Attractively matted in white, the Queen´s one with a water stain not affecting the photograph or signature. Both framed in wood and glazed to an overall size of 12 x 16. VG

YUSUPOV FELIX: (1887-1967) Russian Aristocrat, also known as Prince Yusupov, Count Sumarokov-Elston. One of the wealthiest man in Imperial Russia in the early 20th century. Best known for his participation in the assassination of Grigori Rasputin, 1916. An excellent signed 9 x 11.5 photograph, the image depicting Prince Yusupov standing in a formal half-length pose, wearing hat, suit and tie. Signed in bold black ink to the lower right corner `Souvenir et reconnaissance, F. Youssoupoff´, also dated beneath in his hand, 1927. With pencil annotation to the verso indicating to who it was inscribed. Very small remnants of former affixing to the upper border to the verso. VG

An excellent, large vintage signed 7 x 10 cabinet photograph, the image depicting Cody in a head and shoulders pose wearing his Stetson hat. Photograph by Guigoni & Bossi of Milan and bearing their imprint to the lower mount and verso. Signed by Cody in bold, dark purple ink across a light area at the head of the image, 'To American friend in Austria Dr. [the name partially erased] W. F. Cody, Buffalo Bill' and dated Vienna, 7th May 1896 in his hand. A couple of light scuffs to the image, predominantly where the original recipient's surname has been partially erased, otherwise VG Buffalo Bill's Wild West shows toured Europe eight times, the first four tours between 1887-92 and the last four from 1902-06.
