Full title: A Chinese famille rose Meissen style quatrefoil beaker and saucer with galant scenes, Augustus Rex mark (Augustus the Strong), TongzhiDescription:L 13,9 - D 12,5 cm (the saucer) H 8,2 cm (the cup) Ref.: - A very similar beaker and saucer offered at Sotheby's, New York, Sale N10131, Selected Meissen and other ceramics from the collection of Henry H. Arnhold, Oct. 24, 2019, lot 352 (link): "This rare type of Chinese export beaker and saucer is discussed in depth in David Sanctuary Howard and John Ayers, China For the West: Chinese Porcelain and other Decorative Arts for Export illustrated from the Mottahedeh Collection, London, 1978, vol. II, cat. no. 539. The authors note that the original AR (Augustus Rex, referring to Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony) mark was used in Meissen porcelain between 1723 and 1736, yet the particular style of decoration on the present example did not appear in Meissen originals until after the iconic crossed-swords marks were introduced, therefore pointing out the contradiction in date between the mark and the decoration. The authors continue to note that it was known that in Dresden, during the second half of the 19th century, decorators used the AR mark to decorate German porcelain to imitate earlier Meissen wares. Helena Wolfsohn was one of the best well-known decorators who utilized the AR mark until the Meissen factory took legal action against her. It is therefore plausible that one such later reproduction of Meissen porcelain, was sent to China in order to be copied. This, in turn, marks the Chinese example as an imitation of an imitation. It appears that five other examples are known, including the example from the Mottahedeh collection. Another pair are in the Helena Woolworth McCann Collection in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and illustrated in Clare Le Corbeiller, China Trade Porcelain: Patterns of Exchange, New York, 1974, cat. no. 37, and Elinor Gordon (ed.), Chinese Export Porcelain: An Historical Survey, New York, 1975, p. 80."Condition reports and high resolution pictures are available on our website at www.coronariauctions.com. Rolex. A stainless steel chronograph wristwatch with ‘no lume’ dial, Ref. 6238, ‘Pre-Daytona’, circa 1965. Movement: cal. 72 B. manual winding, 17 jewels. Dial: silvered, applied faceted baton indexes, engine-turned subsidiary dial for constant seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour register. Case: stainless steel Oyster case, screw-down back and crown, no. 1226373, stainless steel Oyster bracelet. Signed: case, dial, movement and bracelet. Dimensions: diameter 36mm, bracelet circumference approximately 200mm. Accessories: original receipt, service guarantee, spare link and presentation case. £20,000-£30,000 --- The reference 6238 was produced between 1962 and 1968, and it is believed that approximately 2000 to 2500 pieces were manufactured (in all metals and dial variations). Known as the ‘Pre-Daytona’ by collectors, 6238 was the predecessor of the reference 6239 Cosmograph Daytona model - as such, it is an important model in Rolex’s history, marking a turning point in the development of the chronograph and how it is known today. The present example was specifically made for the Japanese market with no lume to the dial or hands. It is thought that having any radioactive material on a watch would be seen as a deterrent, given the country's recent history. The dial still has 'T-Swiss-T’ printed at the bottom, as the dial printing process would not have been adjusted for a specific market. Accompanied by its original receipt from the Asian retailer, this is a fantastic opportunity for a collector to obtain a rare example of the stunning and sort after reference 6238 ‘Pre-Daytona’. Condition Report Movement: running and chronograph operating correctly at the time of cataloguing. Dial: very light spotting throughout. Case: scuffs throughout to the case and bracelet. With Rolex service papers dated 27.3.80. Inside case no. 6238 C.R.S 2. Bracelet no. 4/66 7205 Gross weight: 75.9gm. Please note that the above condition report is a statement of opinion only and may not specify all mechanical replacements or imperfections. Watches are opened to examine the movements, no warranties are made that the watches are water-resistant. The watch has not been tested for the accuracy of its time keeping and would benefit from a service at the buyer’s expense.

Feathered headpieces are also occasionally found on morato or blackamoor figures carved and decorated in the Venetian manner. An Identical table, almost certainly the pair to the offered lot although having lost its carving to the apron, was sold; Christie's, New York, Continental Furniture and Works of Art, 26th Sep 2001, Lot 119 ($30,550).

Lot 306

Y&nbspA REGENCY RED-EBONY AND EBONISED CENTRE TABLE IN THE MANNER OF THOMAS HOPE, POSSIBLY ANGLO-INDIAN, CIRCA 1810-15 81cm high, 93.5cm wide, 68cm deep Provenance: Christie's, London, Important English Furniture, 29th November 2001, Lot 182 (£23,500) This rare table is designed in the early 19th Century 'antique' manner with plinth-supported ends, of inverted-lyre scroll form centred by a medallion, both deriving from a library table illustrated in Thomas Hope's Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, London, 1807 and from engravings of the celebrated marble 'tomb of Agrippa'. The combination of exotic timbers and the unusual striking design may point to an intriguing possible Anglo Indian origin. Thomas Hope (1769-1831) was influential as a designer, design reformer and collector. A Dutchman, born in Amsterdam, Hope inherited from his family a tradition of collecting as well as vast wealth from the family bank. He was a collector on a grand scale and also an innovative designer of great genius who helped define what we understand as the Regency style. His extensive Grand Tour travels in Europe, Greece, Turkey and Egypt inspired his interest in antiquities as a source of designs for Regency interiors, furniture and metalwork. He was determined to reform contemporary taste by returning architecture and the arts, including interior design and furniture, to what he conceived as the spirit of classical purity. In 1799 he bought a house designed by Robert Adam in Duchess Street, Portland Place, London, which he remodelled with a series of themed interiors. The colourful interiors of Duchess Street and of Hope's country house, Deepdene in Surrey, played a unique role in the history of collecting, interior design and display. Both were open to select visitors, but his furniture reached an even wider public through his book, Household Furniture and Interior Decoration. Published in 1807, this book introduced the term 'interior decoration' into the English language.

(Apparently RARE) Wigwam was unquestionably the most important Finnish band of the seventies. As well, they were the first Finnish band to (almost!) make it internationally. Though the big breakthrough they deserved never really materialized, Wigwam did enjoy a slight taste of international recognition. Even today, more than 20 years after the band's heyday, Wigwam still has a respectable cult following, in Finland and abroad. The condition appears to be excellent.
