Ferriday's Lewis Matthews III (13, left) catches a touchdown pass as ASH defenders Jadarius Clark (21) and Dailyn Williams (22) move in.

FERRIDAY 37, ASH 27

at The Reservation, Tioga, Saturday (Sept. 2), non-district game

Records: Ferriday 1-0; ASH 0-1

HOW THE GAME WAS WON

Ferriday took advantage of a down day by Alexandria Senior High as it earned a big win against a Class 5A opponent. LSU commit Dantrieze Scott caught a pair of touchdown passes, while outside runs by Jerrius Scott gashed the ASH defense.

ASH had little to no answer for Ferriday’s athleticism, despite getting a few breaks such as returning two muffed punts, getting a touchdown on defense and benefiting from multiple penalties from Ferriday.

Alexandria Senior High School's Scott Hebronb (40, center) falls on a fumble by Ferriday's T.J. Swanson (6, far left) as ASH's Cedric Davis (33, far right) comes in to help Saturday.

GAME NOTES

  • Originally set for 7 p.m. Friday at J.L. “Butch” Stoker Field, the game was moved to Tioga with an 11:30 a.m. kickoff time on Saturday.
  • Fouls, but not much harm: Ferriday had 18 penalties for 179 yards, but managed to keep ASH at bay. In the first half, the Ferriday defense held ASH to 79 yards of offense, despite mounting 14 penalties for 132 yards.
  • LSU commit and Ferriday senior lineman Dare Rosenthal was ejected in the second quarter for a targeting penalty with 10 minutes left in the second quarter. Even though ASH was awarded 45 penalty yards — a personal foul on Rosenthal and two unsportsmanlike penalties on Ferriday — ASH turned the ball over on downs when a touchdown reception by Jorien Vallien was ruled incomplete.
  • Special teams were special as there were three muffed punts that were recovered by the kicking team.
