This resource can be used by teachers in both early and first level classes. Typically, children will begin to learn phonics in nursery or primary 1 during early level stage. However, as there are such a wide range of phonemic blends in the English language, teaching the recognition of phonemes extends well into first level into Primary 2 and 3. A good grasp of phonics is essential for a child to be a successful reader and understand spelling rules.
All schools will teach phonemes in the early stages of a child's education during Literacy lessons. It is vital for children to be able to understand how many words in the English language are made up of combinations of letters and how blending sounds together constructs a word. This lovely poster serves a reminder to children as to how familiar objects either begin with phonemes or have them in the middle of end of a word. It is a great resource to have during spelling lessons at early and first level.
