Literatur LIVE

What if you hadn't made this one decision, but this completely different one? What would have happened if expectations had been defied? And: wouldn't it be nice if you could try out a life before you actually live it?

Sometimes people fear that they have been cowardly, that they have hesitated too long and missed something that would have given them a better self, greater happiness, and better-looking and funnier pets and partners.

The new stories by Saša Stanišić are dedicated to this constant pondering at the crossroads of our biography, where one could have taken a more surprising path, made an unusual choice or told a lie. Just like the cleaner who, with a goat hair brush in her hand, finally decides to take life into her own hands. Like the German-Bosnian writer who travels to Heligoland for the first time, only to realize that he has already been to Helgoland before. Just like the father who is willing to cheat in order to finally win against his eight-year-old son in Memory.

Saša Stanišić was born in Višegrad (Yugoslavia) in 1978 and has lived in Germany since 1992. His stories and novels have been translated into over 30 languages and have received numerous awards. Saša Stanišić received, among other things, the Leipzig Book Fair Prize for “Before the Festival” and the German Book Prize 2019 for “Herkunft” as well as, among others. the Eichendorff Literature Prize, the Schiller Prize and the Hans Fallada Prize.
