James Meiler, 74, of Millersburg, Ohio and formerly of Salem passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018 in Millersburg at Pomerene Hospital.

James was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 22, 1943 the son of the late James and Kathleen (Culhane) Meiler.

He was a graduate of St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.

He ran his family’s firm Laura Lee International, worked as a State of Pennsylvania Bank Examiner and worked in various Columbiana County Banks. James was elected to the United Local School Board and served as its President.

He was an avid tennis fan, coaching boys tennis at United and helping his daughter’s teams. He loved the outdoors; especially the ocean, as he and Paula vacationed a good bit of time in the last year at their home on Hilton Head Island. He enjoyed his weekly card game but most important to him was spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Paula (McLaughlin) Meiler whom he married on May 19, 1985. His children, Carri (Roy Heller) Meiler of New Philadelphia, Dr. Laura (Justin Albright) Meiler of Streetsboro, James (Sue) Meiler of Telford, Pennsylvania, Keith (Janet) Meiler of Oxford, Pennsylvania and Debbie Triebl of Pennsylvania; 14 grandchildren and a sister, Kay (Jeff) Hofmann of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Dolly Knott.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Brown Funeral Home in Salem at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Tom Allmon officiating.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, September 22 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Burial will take place at Woodsdale Cemetery.
