RM2RD7757–An early illustration of King Henry II (1133-1189) of England. He became uneasy that Richard de Clare (Strongbow) and other loyal subjects were becoming too accustomed to Ireland’s way of life, so he invaded Ireland with a fleet of 400 ships to transport his army and weapons in October of 1171, the first time an English monarch set foot in Ireland. On arrived in Ireland the Lords, faced with the massive invasion force agreed to remain loyal to King Henry II who went on to build many castles to protect his newly conquered territories.

Edward VI was King of England and Ireland from January 28, 1547, until his death in 1553. He was crowned on February 20, 1547, at the age of nine. Edward was the son of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour and the first English monarch to be raised as a Protestant. The artist is Frances Brundage, an American who died in 1937.
